TCS Electronics custom manufactures back flex printed circuit boards (PCB) for a medical application. Beginning with a customer-supplied print, we began the manufacturing process by perfecting the design. Using polyimide with designated stiffeners, water-soluble solder-paste, and a designated adhesive as the primary materials, we manufactured the PCB board in several steps.
The technological aspects of the PCB were supported using surface mount technology (SMT), and we loaded boards in an SMT board carrier. To cover the fingers, we used Kapton tape. After picking and placing, we hand-applied a pre-cut gasket, and then labeled, soldered, washed, and inspected the PCB. Once inspection was complete we pressed PEM nuts into two designated locations, applied conformal coating, and baked the PCB in a ventilated oven.
The PCB board was then subjected to materials and equipment and functional testing. The final component weighed an estimated .015 pounds. When we were certain we had met all of our clients expectations and precise standards, we packed the PCBs in nested, conductive vacuum-formed trays and delivered it to them.
